Vehicles in Germany's City Discovered Smeared with Swastikas in Blood, Law Enforcement State

Police mentioned they were contacted by a resident who found a vehicle in Hanau covered with reddish liquid

Approximately 50 vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's town of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.

Cars, building surfaces and postboxes were vandalized, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they stated in a statement.

Law enforcement say they were contacted during the night on Wednesday night, when a resident discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued liquid.

The fluid had been placed in the pattern of a swastika, they added.

Officers then found many other vandalized cars and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.

Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws outlawing the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.

Police state early analysis suggest the fluid was probably blood from a person.

"There is still no lead as to where it came from; authorities are presently not cognizant of any harm in association with the occurrence," they added.

Local authorities said they were working "to unravel the incident" and have asked to the public for details.

A senior representative commented the vandalism made him without words and needed to be resolved promptly.

"This incident strikes at the center of Hanau and revives the trauma of the far-right violent incident five years ago," he wrote on online, referring to the death of nine individuals by a assailant targeting individuals of migrant background in February 2020.
