The Iconic Puzzle Game Couldn't Succeed at This Gaming Ceremony — Another Award Type May Address This Issue

As any significant prize-giving event approaches, one notices a demand to include additional classifications to recognize unsung work and fill the passions of followers who have specialized interests.

My colleague made the case supporting a scary games classification. That would be fantastic. So would tabletop games, this being a dedicated supporter's campaign. Yet I need to apologize in advance if I try to elbow in front just as with other blinkered fanatics, I have a cast-iron argument supporting my request is the most urgent above others. The demand is this: There should be a category for puzzle games.

Categorizing Game Types

Categorizing art by genre defies precise measurement; it’s very subjective, and typically generate discussions resulting in unclear classifications. There’s a reason movie academies avoid this approach. Yet it remains an essential concession for the industry of gaming, that demonstrate such variety it's challenging to consider them as a single art form.

For the full spectrum of achievement in video games to be recognized, and to ensure all game types to have a chance for representation, classification by type becomes crucial.

Present Award Structure

Prominent interactive entertainment events currently feature award types recognizing Action, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Fighting, Simulation and strategy titles, plus athletic and racing experiences. Collectively, these award types successfully include a lot of ground, and you can find room accommodating various experiences.

Not so for logic-based experiences. No suitable classification appears for their placement. Think about these recent excellent titles, showing diverse approaches: building puzzles from a specific release, intense tile-matching in a different title, thought-provoking social scenarios from additional release. Where could they possibly go between these six categories? Simply put, no category fits.

The Representation Problem

Many instances occur of brilliant puzzle games released every year that have no home in entertainment awards, if they accidentally match classification types such as Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, and the highly challenging independent game categories.

  • An iconic brain-teaser got overlooked for anything during that awards season
  • A different innovative game missed out that year
  • Well-received sorting experience got ignored that year
  • Limited numbers of brain-teasers scraped into independent or mobile categories

Importance of Logic Titles

These are often small games, yet the craft in brain-teasers holds tremendous importance. Iconic mobile puzzle games count as most popular titles in the world maintaining this status for an extended period.

The iconic tile-matching title challenges well-known building titles competing to become most purchased experience; it also contends as greatest title ever. Logic titles represent cornerstones within interactive entertainment, and they are in conversation with diverse game types.

Recommendation and Reasoning

Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter such difficulty. It would be easy to populate five nominees engaging, different, qualified experiences annually without trouble — perhaps, with difficulty, since numerous excellent many worthy titles.

And to reiterate, these include experiences that otherwise have no home in important events. Puzzle game makers operate at the demanding boundary game development, producing among the purest expressions of the video game form. Comparable to film action specialists, they warrant appreciation. Let’s not keep them waiting decades.
