The artist has handed over the full amount of his £25k award winnings to the MVT, which operates to save the United Kingdom's grassroots concert spaces.

Fender was awarded the cheque on mid-October as his new release People Watching was declared the best record of the last 12 months.

The musician has chosen to give the cash to the trust, in acknowledgment of the crucial part local spots played in his beginning days.

"I personally wouldn't be doing my current career if it weren't for all the shows I performed around the area, and elsewhere, when I was starting out," said Fender. "These locations are legendary, but they are struggling."

From early 2023 onward, more than 150 of these locations have ceased operations – roughly 16 percent of the whole industry in the UK.

Over the past year, major artists like the band Pulp, the group Coldplay, the singer Katy Perry and Sheeran have all backed the trust in its efforts to support the industry, by including a minor surcharge to their ticket prices, which supports smaller concert halls.

Sam Fender also took part, generating over £100k on his 2024 arena tour to support thirty-eight small stages across the UK.

These funds assisted spaces that were confronting potential shutdown due to challenges arising from flooding, fires and family tragedies, as well as permit problems, conflicts and noise complaints.

Additional spaces received financial assistance in upgrading facilities and gear that directly benefitted musicians and audiences.

"The idea that funds from performances in large arenas supports the smaller venues, where it begins for performers like me, is just logical," Sam Fender has stated.

Fender is far from the only musician to contribute his honor winnings to good deeds.

In Pulp earned the award in the year 1996 for their release Different Class, lead singer Cocker announced that the group would donate their prize money to the non-profit War Child.

That year, musician the artist shared her bounty among several organizations, like the NSPCC and a Sickle Cell organization.

"I also donated a grand to Highgate Newtown, to their gymnastics class, because I practiced gymnastics when I was a child and they needed updated gear," Ms Dynamite shared with outlets.

Previously, the band contributed their winnings to the youth organization that supported their act, alongside other local music groups.

Additionally the 1994 recipients M People gave their winnings to a multiple sclerosis charity after a close contact was diagnosed the condition.

"Winning was quite enough," said vocalist Small. "The money was the bonus but we didn't need the cherry, because we had the honor. So our winning touched somebody else's life."

Last week, the MVT revealed it had rescued a couple of local spots in the South East, by bringing them into local control.

The first in the city and the other in Bristol were bought under the Own Our Venues initiative, which is funded by the arts council and supporters who purchase "shares" in the buildings.
