Congress Approves Bill to Disclose Epstein Files

The upper chamber of Congress on this Tuesday passed without delay to a measure that will mandate the disclosure of investigative files related to the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, following a overwhelming vote in the US House of Representatives and a shift by Donald Trump and his Republican allies. The White House changed course after an extended period of trying to delay the joint action involving a scandal that has plagued the president since his return to the White House.

Expedited Passage in Congress

The Senate acted by general agreement, which requires approval from each senator but does not require a recorded vote, expediting the process. Just before, the House passed by a huge margin the bill on a 427-1 tally.

“The American people have waited long enough. The survivors have waited patiently,” Chuck Schumer said in a Senate remarks on Tuesday, before requesting the Senate to approve it without opposition. “Uncover the facts. Ensure full disclosure.”

Presidential Signature

This legislation next goes to the president for his endorsement. He stated on the previous day that he would approve the bill.

Though the president has for months rejected the uproar over the official management of the scandal as a “Democrat hoax”, he voiced approval for the House bill over the weekend, and stated he would approve it if it reaches his desk.

Response

Democrats, along with those affected and their advocates who were watching from a viewing area, cheered after the bill was enacted. The sole “no” vote came from a Louisiana Republican, who said he was concerned the measure would reveal identifying details of individuals involved, those under scrutiny and others caught up in the investigation.
